New Earth RelationshipsTwitter has brought Connections for Women so many loyal readers and talented authors.  Once again, because of Twitter, I have had the opportunity to connect with an incredible talent – William Weil of www.newearthrelationships.org.  As a result of our tweeting I have had the opportunity to read his new book “New Earth Relationships – A Guide for Couples in the 21st Century” and icing to the cake, interview William Weil.

There are more books out there about relationships, the how to, the what is and what if, than you or I could even contemplate.  What sets this book above the masses?  William Weil gets it and with his command of the pen is able to lay it out there in an engaging way by using personal experiences and giving the reader practical tools and exercises to move toward a more enlightened relationship.  Not only can this book be used by couples and therapists alike, it can be adapted for any relationship, personal or business.  He teaches excellent communication skills for everyday, helping you to be present and engaging.  Reading New Earth Relationships is believing in the results. I highly recommend it.

Once completing the book I was anxious to chat with Mr. Weil.  He was gracious enough to give me as much time as I wanted so for an hour I asked and he answered.William Weil

C4W:  What is the inspiration for New Earth Relationships?
WW:  Over the last 30 years of my life I have had the opportunity to learn a lot about relationships through personal experience, training and my career.  There is a greater than 50% divorce rate in the United States, a big red flag with relationships.  I want to help make a difference, plain and simple.  I have always been good at communicating so it seemed a natural segue to put my teachings, training and experiences into a book that could then be used by many.

C4W:  Explain why the title “New Earth Relationships.”  It seems very close to Eckart Tolle’s New Earth.
WW:  I absolutely love Eckart Tolle’s work “A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life Purpose.”  I am taking this to a different level helping couples embrace the purpose of a relationship as achieving increased consciousness by developing a habit of honest, intimate communications.

C4W:  You have stated in your book that the best purpose for a relationship is to support your partner in becoming enlightened and visa versa.  Explain enlightenment in terms of a relationship – the role enlightenment plays.
WW:  It is the journey, alone and together.  By having a relationship with someone you love and trust enables you to grow as an individual and allows you to support your partner as he or she grows as well.  Let me give you an example.  We all have triggers from the past, events buried that come to the surface when an current action prompts it.  I inadvertently push JoAnn’s buttons often but because of the work we have done together I recognize that her reaction is not about the thing I did.  I give her time to cool down and we then discuss it in a safe and loving way.  The more we are able to do this for each other, the less power the past events have on us.  We become more enlightened and able to be present in the day.

C4W:  You have brought me to my next question quite nicely.  It seems that the biggest component of enlightenment is “being present” and yet with everything going on around us now it is the most difficult thing to accomplish.  What do you say to couples to help them be present in the relationship?
WW:  A vital part in a relationship is having someone present for you, someone who loves you unconditionally, not judging or reacting to you.  Two things come immediately to mind.  As part of a couple, you must request it.  Ask you partner if he or she is in a place that he or she can be present to hear what you have to say.  Individually it is a conscious effort to be in the moment.  Express gratitude daily.  Meditate or just quiet your mind and take in your surroundings daily.

C4W:  You have addressed two areas that tend to interfere with relationships.  The first is the EGO.  I do believe the ego can be a stumbling block but also believe that if harnessed can be a strong motivator in accomplishing goals.  How do we as individuals, and as couples, minimize its negative effects so that we can then be open, present and enlightened?
WW:  I too agree that EGO can be a great motivator.  The key is balance.  When the EGO is out of balance you will find your energy is not right.  Be more aware of your thoughts.  The more you can think highly conscious thoughts the less the EGO can take over.  Do you want to be right or happy?

C4W:  Now that struck a cord with me.  Good food for thought.  The second area that tends to interfere is Fear.  Fear tends to keep us within ourselves.  It will take an individual out of the present in a snap.  Often times we no longer identify the fear because it is buried.  How do you walk through this, identifying and then letting go of the fear?
WW:  The way to deal with fear, or anything difficult, is to accept it.  Resistance causes persistence.  Worry is a prayer for something you don’t want to happen.  Communicate it fully.  Finding the triggers we spoke about early also helps identify the buried fear.  We are not supposed to do this alone.  Work with your partner or a professional if needed.

C4W:  Tell me about LovePong.com.
WW:  I have had the most fun creating this website.  The first step to being the best you can be in a relationship is learning.  Once you learn practice must come into play.  LovePong is free for couples to practice the art of communicating.  It forces both parties to stay conscious in the relationship.  It is simple and has proven to work very well.  I highly recommend you try it. Practice, Practice, Practice

C4W:  “So where do we go from here?”   This is the last chapter in your book and so very well written.  You hit on all of the points in the book opening the door for the reader to actively begin working on herself/himself.  Do you have anything to add?
WW:  Yes. Thank you for your time and I am very grateful for the opportunity to share my thoughts and book with you and your readers.

There you have it.  A must read from me to you.  Let me know what you think.  I would love to hear from you.
